When you start with a new Word document, you will see a blank screen, with the Microsoft ribbon available. Above that you will have the save and undo buttons. You click on that and you have the ability to create a new document or open an existing one. Click on New and double click a blank document.
The new Word document will be available for you to start using. And you will see now the Home tab on the ribbon is activated. Type in your information, highlight some text, you can use Bold, Italic, and also, again select the text first and change the font colour.
Once you have created your Word document, again, to save it, click the Microsoft button, and you have the ability to save it in a range of different formats. Move the cursor to Save As, and from the Save As dialog box, you will see the Word Document. This will save it in the default file format, which will be the Microsoft Word 2007 format. The file extension for one of these documents is .docx. This is the new file format for Office 2007.
If for example you want to send your document to someone who has not got the new version of Office, You can save as Word 97-2003 document and it will save it in the format that is compatible with previous versions of Word. Select the format best suited to your needs. I'm going to select a Word document in the new format. And when you save your new document, you will see the filename, with the .docx file extension. Click on Save. Your new document will be saved and you will notice that in the title bar, the document name is displayed.
When you first start using Word, click the Microsoft button and select New, and once you have made your word document, and you're ready to save, click on that button once more, click Save As and save it as a Word document or a previous version.
